Be prepared to work hard. Remember, what you put in to your college planning determines what you will get out of it. The greatest mistake student’s make is waiting until the last minute.

Research, read, and review. The more you educate yourself about potential colleges, majors, careers, etc., the better off you will be when making final decisions.

Early bird gets the worm! Make sure to visit colleges early so that you can get an idea of how they differ, what they offer, and whether or not they are right for you.

Apply yourself and work hard. Your GPA and course rigor are two of the most important criteria colleges consider for admission.

Time management is essential. Junior year is often the busiest year of high school. Be sure to manage time for schoolwork, social events and college planning.

Have goals and write them down. Setting goals for yourself, both short term and long term, will help keep you motivated when you feel like giving up.

Embrace who you are. Your interests, likes and dislikes, personality, learning style, etc., will help you decide what types of colleges are the best fit for you. Unlike high school, selecting a college is a very personal decision.
